GMK Associates was retained by SC ENT Landholdings Opportunity Fund, LLC on behalf of
SC ENT Allergy & Sleep Medicine to design and construct via the design-build delivery method a new ambulatory surgery center (ASC) and medical clinic located on approximately 1.9 acres in the Park Central medical complex off of Sunset Drive in Columbia, SC.
Founded in 2002, SC ENT is the premier and largest ear, nose, and throat practice in the Midlands and with 10 other locations in addition to this new facility. SC ENT’s board-certified physicians treat patients of all ages for a range of ENT conditions and have subspecialty training in pediatric ENT, sleep medicine, allergy, otology, facial trauma and head and neck surgery.
The new two-story, approximately 20,504-sf “Center of Excellence” is designed with the medical clinic located on the first floor to best accommodate general medical visits and consultations, and the ambulatory surgery center of the second floor for specialized ENT procedures utilizing two operating rooms. The first floor SC ENT Clinic consists of a waiting space, reception, and business office, allergy area, audiology, exam rooms, nurse stations, board room, break room, and support spaces such as toilets, stairs, elevators, and electrical and mechanical rooms.
The second floor includes the SC ENT ASC consisting of a waiting space, reception, offices, pre- and post- operatory spaces, nurse station, operating rooms (2), large storage rooms (2), and supporting spaces such as toilets, stairs, elevators, operatory support spaces, and electrical and mechanical rooms.
GMK has partnered with Craig A. Otto, Architect, Inc., for architectural design support for the project, with GMK’s design-build division overseeing the civil, structural, MEP, and fire protection designs, as well asl the construction of the building. The project broke ground in the Spring of 2021 and has proceeded through the initial site work package. Construction is anticipated to be complete in 2022.
