KershawHealth, a 121-bed hospital system in Camden, S.C., opened a freestanding diagnostic center and medical office building in an executive office park currently being developed in a fast-growing area of Kershaw County. Two stories with approximately 42,050 SF, the facility was designed under the Seacoast Medical Center concept for future expansion. The diagnostic center is located on the first floor and is comprised of a cardio-pulmonary clinic, lobby/public service spaces, urgent care clinic, diagnostic radiology clinic, lab and circulation and elevator core. The second floor is shelled space for future development into medical clinics.

A future ambulatory surgery center is sited adjacent to this facility, and the master plan for the park (also developed by this team) enables the addition of hospital beds in the future, if needed. Working closely with the hospital’s team, the design team took special care to project the number of cases in order to correctly size the facility, while at the same time designing flexible space for future growth. It is designed with a reduced staffing model in mind to allow operation at maximum efficiency with less staff.
