Mr. Monahan serves as the Treasurer of the Board of Directors of GMK Associates, Inc., following his tenure as the Board Chairman and Treasurer for the past 20 years. Mr. Monahan joined GMK in 1981 as the firm’s comptroller after ten years of public practice as a CPA. Through his financial guidance and expertise, Mr. Monahan led the firm in financial planning and accountability and became fully knowledgeable in the design and construction process. He ultimately assisted GMK’s management team in expanding the firm’s services to include engineering, interior design, design/build, and certain selected real estate projects. Between 1993 and 2001, Mr. Monahan administered the ownership transfer from the founding partners to existing employees/ shareholders. In 2001, Mr. Monahan assumed the position of chairman of the firm by unanimous vote of the Board of Directors. In 2021, Mr. Monahan transitioned to senior status with the firm, becoming Chairman Emeritus while continuing his role as Board Treasurer. Mr. Monahan is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor of science in accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant.
