Tom Weiland
AIA, NCARB
Board Member / Director of Architecture

As the GMK’s director of architecture, Mr. Weiland manages the technical staff and oversees the design work of the entire Architecture Division. Mr. Weiland previously served as the firm’s principal architect. Mr. Weiland brings more than 30 years of experience and an extensive background in many facets of facility design and construction to the GMK team. He has been involved in all of GMK’s recent design and feasibility study projects for state and local government clients as well as K-12, higher education, healthcare, corporate/private, and hospitality clients, among others. He has unparalleled schedule and budget knowledge, as well as unique understanding of what is required to work in existing facilities for renovation work. He takes pride in bringing creative and forward-thinking solutions to fruition, but also being very pragmatic with designs that emphasize ease of maintenance and lower life-cycle costs. Mr. Weiland serves as lead designer for the firm’s large, complex assignments and is the lead coordinating architect on all projects under GMK’s multiple indefinite delivery contracts and other long-term relationships with the SC Department of Agriculture and the VC Summer Nuclear Station. In these roles, he manages the architectural support required to move those projects through design, construction documents, bidding, and construction administration. Mr. Weiland is a registered architect in South Carolina and North Carolina, and holds a bachelor of environmental design (architecture) and a bachelor of arts (architecture) from North Carolina State University. He is a member of the American Institute of Architecture (AIA) and has earned certification through the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).
